When you opt for a campsite by the Mediterranean, you can be sure of putting together a tailor-made holiday. Simply bask on a soft sandy beach, explore the rich local heritage and nature, enjoy a refreshing dose of the great outdoors, take a boat trip or pack your holiday with sport... just pick what suits you best! Or do a little bit of everything to please the whole gang. Or why not focus on a chosen theme throughout your stay? In other words – do exactly what you want!
Holidays by the sea, especially in the South of France and Spain, are so popular for precisely that reason. But that’s not all! There’s also a wide variety of campsites. Campsites with a swimming pool, campsites for families or couples, holiday villages with superb water slides, mobile home rentals by the sea or up on the heights, quirky campsites and even campsites for you and your dog... In fact, some Yelloh! Village offer a combination of all these criteria!
And always with the quality of accommodation and services you would expect from Yelloh! Village 4 and 5 star campsites. High-end services, worthy of the most exclusive camping villages, so you can focus on the best parts of your holiday!
The Côte d’Azur is a timeless Mediterranean destination. From Toulon to the Italian border, explore what is seen as the most beautiful coastline in France. With its turquoise waters, characteristic villages and Italian-influenced architecture, the French Riviera guarantees idyllic scenery without having to travel to the other side of the world.
And we’re sure you know the most famous French seaside resorts are located in the Var and the Alpes-Maritimes. Think of Saint-Tropez, Port-Grimaud, Antibes-Juan les Pins, Cannes, Nice, France Hyères, Ramatuelle, Porquerolles... Finally, the east of the French Riviera boasts a distinctively undulating coastline, quite reminiscent of Italy. It thus offers a whole new seascape for holidaymakers to explore.
The Provençal coastline also has plenty going for it. The region boasts crystal-clear waters, a lovely climate and a gentle way of life. But the real advantage of taking a holiday by the sea in Provence is that you can also enjoy the Southern Alps. In less than an hour, you can escape into a vastly different setting. And on the road in between, the Luberon is definitely worth a stopover, with its lavender fields, gorgeous little towns and ochre-coloured landscapes reminiscent of Colorado.
The Camargue overlaps Provence to the west with the rest of the area lying in the Occitan region. It is quite simply unique and forms a remarkable landscape with the largest wetland in France encircling the mouth of the Rhone (which gives its name to the Bouches-du-Rhone department). The area is incredibly flat so on a fine day, you can see as far as the Cévennes, the Alps and even Canigou.
The Camargue also boasts rich fauna and flora. It harbours an exceptional variety of bird species that includes, of course, flamingos, one of three animal species that symbolise the natural region, along with horses and, most famously, bulls.
The Languedoc coastline is perhaps the least well-known on our list. Yet it deserves all our attention. Its vast dune-lined beaches are ideal for bathing, and you won’t have to spread your beach towel almost on top of your neighbour’s! In summer, the nightlife is buzzing with funfairs, fireworks, concerts and an array of other shows.
In addition to the beach, the Languedoc coast offers a wealth of activities and cultural outings to fill your days, so you can enjoy a mix of entertainment and lazing by the water.
This historic territory lies on the east of the border between France and Spain. The Roussillon, the only Catalan province on the French side, enjoys a magnificent setting between the sea and the Pyrenees. Similarly, Spanish Catalonia alternates between the coast and the Pyrenees mountains, while offering a more Iberian lifestyle.
You can thus discover a land full of contrasts encompassing Franco-Spanish cultural differences, but one that shares a distinctively Catalan way of life. A culture that everyone is proud of, whether in Perpignan or Lérida, Barcelona, Tarragona or Girona.
Do you want a complete change of scenery and an island getaway? This kind of aspiration often calls to mind the archipelagos of the Pacific or the Indian Ocean. However, the Mediterranean is filled with remarkable islands. And most of them are not far from home for you.
Take, for example, the Balearic Islands off the coast of Catalonia. The archipelago has everything your family or friends need for a happy holiday at a Yelloh! Village campsite. Wild coves, authentic villages, volcanoes or the capital of nightlife, Ibiza. From Majorca to Menorca, the Balearic Islands are sure to be a hit. Which makes them a destination of choice for your next camping holiday in the Mediterranean.
While we’re talking about heavenly landscapes, unique culture and scenery alternating between sea and mountains, we simply must suggest a camping holiday in Corsica. The Island of Beauty is a rare Mediterranean gem, encapsulating everything that the world’s most famous sea has to offer.
From Bastia to Bonifacio, via Aléria, Ajaccio and Corte, the fine sandy beaches, turquoise waters, mountain villages and Corsican cuisine provide the ingredients for a holiday to remember.
Here’s one of the wonderful things about the Mediterranean: there is no ideal season to go camping by the coast! A holiday is possible in any season.
Temperatures are low in winter, but much less than elsewhere. The thermometer can even reach 20°C. Similarly, autumn is often an extension of summer. The temperatures are more bearable and there are fewer crowds.
Summer is, of course, the most popular period. As temperatures rise, a dip in the Mediterranean is the perfect way to cool down. And later on, you can enjoy the balmy summer nights and the entertainment found all around the Mediterranean. Ultimately, spring is perhaps the ideal compromise between fewer people, lovely weather and perfect temperatures. Neither too hot nor too cool.
In short, you can take your pick!
Our range of accommodation also helps you to tailor your holiday to your own personal wishes. Take your pick from our rentals, a glamping spirit with our furnished tents, our quirky accommodation options or a camping pitch, some of which come with private sanitary facilities: you are spoilt for choice!
Looking for optimal comfort, something different, or a holiday close to nature with no compromises on convenience? Campers of every age will find something to suit them among our holiday rentals in the Mediterranean.
The scenery along the various Mediterranean coasts is sublime, so the region lends itself perfectly to a romantic camping holiday. Nature lovers will adore the Camargue and the wild areas of the Var. For stunning beaches with crystal-clear waters worthy of a picture-postcard, a seaside campsite in Corsica is always a popular choice.
Want a change scenery and fun into the early hours? It’s time for a dose of Spanish living! Take your pick from the idyllic environment of Menorca in the Balearics, the lively Costa Brava and the family-friendly Costa Dorada, all among the most beautiful places on the Iberian Peninsula’s east coast.
When you start to think about booking campsite accommodation by the Mediterranean, aquatic activities and board sports immediately come to mind. Which isn’t surprising, as the Mediterranean coasts lend themselves perfectly to all kinds of activities and water sports.
Scuba diving, windsurfing, stand-up-paddling, jet skiing, kayaking, kite surfing, wakeboarding or parasailing... There are plenty of thrills to be had but you can still keep cool when the temperatures climb.
To help you choose your campsite by the Mediterranean Sea, Yelloh! Village provides a guide to the atmosphere and services on offer at each holiday village. Its indicators help to better understand the spirit and style of each campsite, and the services and activities available in high and low season.
And don’t forget to use our comparison tool, for an even easier way to check and compare the characteristics of several campsites!
Want to take your pooch away with you? Once again, you’ll find just what you need at Yelloh! Village. Many campsites along the Mediterranean will welcome your four-legged friend. In the Alpes-Maritimes, the Var, the Gard, the Hérault, the Pyrenees Orientales or on the Costa Brava, enjoy a holiday by the sea with the WHOLE family.
