Before selecting your campsite, there’s one question to settle... should you go to the mountains or to the seaside? But did you know that you don’t have to pick one or the other? You can choose both! Among the regions that combine both destination types, Yelloh! Village suggests the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.
The Mediterranean, the very essence of Provence
It’s pretty much guaranteed that when you think about the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, you immediately think of the sea. Which is only natural with the Mediterranean stretching along the entire southern part of the region. From the Blue Coast to the west to the Côte d’Azur to the east, marvel before the spectacular turquoise waters enhanced by the local fauna and flora.
With national parks (the Calanques and Port-Cros), idyllic islands (Lérins and Hyères), the seaside destinations of the Alpes-Maritimes and much, much more, we challenge you not to fall under the spell of the Mediterranean during your holiday!
The Southern Alps, a characteristically Provençal landscape
Yes, the sea is wonderful and this is Provence! But you simply must explore the region beyond its southern coastline. Head north into the region and the altitude rises. Quite a bit, in fact, because here we’re in the Southern Alps!
The area is well-known for its winter holidays and ski resorts, but in summer the landscape is transformed and offers a magnificent training ground for hiking enthusiasts. Whether you’re a gentle rambler or seasoned trekker, you’ll be amazed by the vast expanse you can roam! The national parks of the Queyras and the Mercantour are crossed by numerous waymarked trails that will take you to the most stunning viewpoints.
And if you’re missing the water, no problem! Lake Serre-Ponçon awaits, on the border between the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Hautes-Alpes departments.
And in between?
Of course, there’s plenty to see between the coast and the mountains. The Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region has a diverse range of landscapes for you to appreciate, with panoramas that combine views of the mountains with the characteristic coastal vegetation.
From your campsite in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, you can discover:
- the Luberon, where the Provençal villages are enfolded in lavender fields.
- the Alpilles, the mountain range known the world over thanks to Les Baux-de-Provence.
- the Gorges du Verdon where the turquoise waters are surrounded by towering limestone rocks. The ideal spot for thrill-seekers to try out some hair-raising activities!
