The Vendée, a family destination

Did you know? Vendée is the French department with the most campsites. It’s not surprising when you know how good families feel there.
Rich and varied scenery
The Vendée boasts a vast coastal area stretching 250 km, 140 km of which are covered with fine sandy beaches. Ideal for basking in the sun! But that’s not all, because the coastline is also very varied. There are dunes, state forests, rocks and bocage, so each outing will be unique.
And by outings, we mean trips out to sea too! For example, you can venture out to the Vendée’s islands of Yeu and Noirmoutier. To reach the latter, you’ll need to cross the Passage du Gois, a causeway only accessible at low tide.
And the Vendée’s natural beauty is not restricted to its coast. To the south of the area, the Marais Poitevin is one of the region’s must-sees. This is France’s second-largest wetland area. Its verdant landscapes are rare and stretch over around 100,000 hectares. In fact, its uniqueness has earned it the “Natural Regional Park” label.
Activities for holidaymakers of all ages
And the other good thing about the Vendée? You’ll never get bored! There are almost 3,000 events throughout the year. The area is also home to an array of water parks and attractions. The most famous among them is the Puy du Fou. Visit during the day but stay late into the evening too as you explore the Middle Ages and the history of the Vendée. The kids will love pretending to be knights for the day!
And there is a whole host of activities to enjoy: fishing, surfing, cycling, archery, kayaking, pedal boating... and more, so you’re bound to find something to suit you!
The Vendée will keep the whole family happy!!
