Today still, the Normandy Landing Beaches bear reminders of the fierce battles fought there from 6 June 1944 onwards. The Allies managed to land on the Calvados coast despite its defence by a huge Atlantic Wall erected by Nazi Germany. This defensive structure has almost completely disappeared but some strongholds still remain. This is the case of the Longues-sur-Mer battery which is still in a remarkably good state of conservation.
Not far from our campsites in Calvados, discover a long-range artillery battery in one of the sectors that resisted the American, Canadian and British troops the longest.
