Did you know that Albanyà, located in the beautiful Alt Empordà region, is one of the best stargazing spots in Western Europe? There is virtually no light pollution plus the town boasts an astronomical observatory with advanced technology and even collaborates with NASA! The Bassegoda Park campsite, just a few steps away, holds theme nights and a constellation of activities focused on the stars throughout the season.
Albanyà offers a multitude of activities for nature lovers. During your stay, be sure to go hiking in the surrounding mountains, discover the hidden waterfalls as you follow the Gorges of the Muga and venture into the Alta Garrotxa Natural Park. Mountain bikers will also find plenty of exciting trails to explore. Our campsite in Albanyà lies on the path of the GR-11, a hiking trail that crosses the whole of the Pyrenees.
In summer, guests can cool off with a dip in the Muga or enjoy a swim in the campsite’s swimming pool. There are endless possibilities for outdoor adventures, whether you’re into fishing, climbing or canyoning.
In autumn, the shooting star period gradually makes way for mushroom season. The ideal time to come for the Albanyà Mushroom Fair at the Bassegoda Park campsite and discover a wide variety of workshops and products in honour of this oh-so-tasty ingredient!
vAlbanyà is surrounded by spectacular scenery, meandering rivers, lush forests, traditional stone architecture and cobbled streets in picturesque villages. Don't miss a visit to this peaceful village, with its ancient buildings, such as the church of Sant Pere, its square overlooking the orchards and the river, as well as the Alta Garrotxa nature reserve and the magnificent monastery of Sant Llorenç de Sous and the Mare del Deu del Mont. Other sights to see:
The Muga, with its magnificent gorges, is the river closest to the village and campsite, but the Fluvia and the lake of Banyoles are also highly recommended. These idyllic spots provide the perfect setting for aquatic activities and some peaceful surroundings for fishing and swimming.
We also recommend a visit to the Boadella- Darnius reservoir. This reservoir was built in the 1960s to supply water to Figueres and other towns in the Alt Empordà region. Today, you can enjoy water sports, hiking and cycling. You can also go fishing, kayaking and boating, once you have obtained the appropriate licence.
It can be reached from the village of Darnius and is around 35 minutes' drive from Bassegoda Park.
Albanyà and Alt Empordà host a plethora of unusual events all year round to add some extra excitement to your camping holiday:
Mushroom Festival (Festa del Bolet): in October, Albanyà celebrates the richness and diversity of local mushrooms with the Fira del Bolet. Locals and visitors have the opportunity to take part in workshops, cooking demonstrations and guided walks through the forest to learn how to identify the different varieties of mushrooms. Local restaurants also offer special menus based on mushrooms during this period. For its part, the Bassegoda Park campsite participates in the festivities not only by offering accommodation in the heart of nature, but also by organising mushroom-related activities, such as children's workshops, conferences on mycology and even mushroom picking excursions in the company of experts, while the Agumas Restaurant, located in the same campsite, offers a menu with different traditional Catalan dishes based on local mushrooms.
