Located on the Costa Dorada, the town developed thanks to its position astride the Via Augusta, the most important Roman road in Spain. Today, visitors to El Vendrell continue to enjoy the important legacy left by the period, with many of its Roman remains on show in the town's archaeological museum. However, there is far more to see than ancient ruins, such as the church of Sant Salvador, a jewel of Renaissance and Baroque style, and the incredible architecture of the Plaça Nova. But when visiting this popular square don't forget to admire the fountain with its sculpture depicting the great cellist Pablo Casals, who was born in the town!
With three of its districts fronting the sea: Sant Salvador, Coma-ruga and El Francás, El Vendrell is an ideal spot for all those who enjoy swimming or simply having fun in the water! The town's beaches stretch for some 7 kilometres, and are considered to be the best in Catalonia for the quality and therapeutic effect of their water. Perfect for soaking up the Catalan sunshine during your camping holiday near El Vendrell!
