Located in the north of the island of Minorca, in the Balearic Islands, Fornells offers magnificent landscapes that you are not likely to forget in a hurry. Food lovers will love this destination with its numerous restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets.
One of the most popular dishes in Minorca is Caldereta de Langosta, a stew made with lobster caught in the area. Indeed, it was the favourite dish of the former King Juan Carlos. Nowadays, many wealthy tourists visit Minorca to taste it! When camping in the Balearic Islands, be sure to visit this authentic fishing village. Fornells is the perfect place to enjoy this delicious dish.
In addition to its gastronomy, this beautiful fishing village offers some peace and quiet. No large complexes or hotels on the beachfront, just spectacular views and small white houses. Use the free car park at the entrance to the village and explore the marina and fishing port on foot. Even in the height of summer, the area is relatively quiet.
Fornells is also a great destination for family holidays. There are many water sports activities near the campsite to discover or rediscover. How about flyboarding, jet-skiing, water-skiing and even kitesurfing? All these activities are available in Fornells and it is also possible to rent kayaks, boats or bicycles for your excursions. For exclusive bathing, excursions are organised to coves on the north coast that are difficult to access.
At 3.8km away, Carema Splash Park welcomes children and adults with its large water slides and attractions and its 2,000 m² of space for relaxation and games... But that's not all! There are also various restaurants, such as the Marlet grill, the Vistamar buffet, and the Pool Bar where you can enjoy delicious drinks while you swim.
The tower of Fornells is well worth a visit. It is one of the largest towers in Minorca, built between 1801 and 1802, during the English occupation. Originally, it was built to protect the Castle of Sant Antoni, destroyed by the Spaniards after the British domination. It is possible to visit it, but the most impressive thing is the panorama it offers visitors. A stunning view over the Mediterranean. Finally, 17 km away, hikers will delight in climbing Monte Toro, the highest peak of the island, offering an exceptional view over Minorca!
The small village of Fornells served a watchtower in the 17th century used against Barbary pirates mainly present in Italy, France, Spain and Portugal. The main purpose of their attacks was to drive away their enemies but also to capture slaves to sell in North Africa.
Set out in a small group for a catamaran tour at sunset. You will be able to admire the island of Minorca, snorkel and take beautiful photos of the group or the views. Not far from our campsite on the Island of Minorca, it is also possible to spend the day on a sailing boat, do some kayaking, or try your hand at stand-up paddleboarding.
