A camping holiday in Locronan will be a real treat for lovers of nature walks, heritage and history. It’s also an opportunity to add one of the official “Most Beautiful Villages in France” to your portfolio! And beautiful is most certainly the word.
Here, time seems to have come to halt somewhere between the 18th and 19th centuries. You’ll find narrow cobbled streets with beautiful stone buildings, an 18th-century church, no visible electric wires, a well, and plenty of plant life to bring a splash of colour. Not to mention the natural surroundings, the legends passed down from one generation to the next, and the craft industries of yesteryear, such as weaving. In short, on a camping holiday in Locronan, you’ll be transported elsewhere – to a different time and place, to a corner of France renowned for its distinctive architecture, culture and cuisine.
Are you looking for a mobile home rental in Locronan? Or are you simply keen to add Locronan to your tour of Brittany? Then stay at a Yelloh! Village campsite! You’ll be able to visit Locronan while benefiting from all the comforts of a mobile home rental. And the advantages of a 4 or 5 star seaside campsite in Brittany!
Imagine coming back from a day out visiting Locronan and diving into the vast water park. Then enjoying a range of activities and the campsite evening entertainment. And at the end of the day, heading back to relax in your top-of-the-range accommodation or on your spacious pitch. You’ll also find a range of services and shops nearby to make your camping life easier.
What’s more, Brittany’s Yelloh! Village campsites are all found by the sea. The Atlantic Ocean is minutes away for a swim or watersports session.
Do you know what Locronan means? The village name is made up of 2 parts: loc and Ronan, which simply means “Ronan’s place”. A visit to the town will make it clear why this name emerged, as the Irish-born Breton saint is highly regarded here.
If you’re interested in finding out more about him, have a look around the Church of Saint-Ronan in the heart of the village. You’ll learn about the miracles that were attributed to this bishop, who is said to have arrived in Locronan from Ireland after the apparition of an angel ordering him to go to Cornouaille.
There’s only one thing for it – get walking! A tour of the historic village centre is a must. With the narrow streets, the 16th-century houses, the church of Saint-Ronan and the workshops of the weavers and other craftspeople, you’ll take a step back hundreds of years in time.
Around the village, there’s another idea for a wander, following in the footsteps of the Grande and Petite Troménies processions that pay tribute to Ronan, the village’s patron saint. These ceremonies, known as “pardons”, continue to pay homage to Saint Ronan even today. They follow two routes, one covering 6 km and the other 12 km. The first takes place every year, while the second is observed every 6 years. You too can follow the paths that lead to 12 granite crosses and 42 small huts.
Finally, before heading back to your campsite in Locronan or nearby, take the time to visit the local museum. The Museum of Art and History showcases the traditional skills of the era. A terrific way to gain a better understanding of life in Locronan and its heritage.
