It was named L’Île Rousse after the colour of the cliffs and rocks surrounding the village. Take a walk up to the belvedere at the Pointe de L’Île Rousse: from there you have breathaking panoramic views over the whole coastline of the region. You will also be able to see Calvi that is just a few kilometres away. And you can even take a little tourist train along the coast to this lovely town. A fabulous occasion to admire the magnificent hinterland of L’Île Rousse!
L’Île Rousse is the departure and arrival point for ferries to the mainland and is a very lively place with lots of boutiques, bars and restaurants along its lovely little streets. Take some time out to sample the local specialities before visiting the pretty fishing harbour or just mull over a drink in the shade of the plane trees on the Place Paoli – a popular site for pétanque tournaments. And you should definitely make sure you visit the superb covered market of L’Île Rousse with its 21 columns and discover a treasure-trove of delicious local products.
The ever-present sun is the perfect temptation for a swim in the Mediterranean: the beaches are made of fine sand and the water is a gorgeous turquoise blue.
