Aude is a department with all sorts of natural and cultural discoveries to be made. Soothed by a mainly Mediterranean climate, its mountainside atmosphere adds an unusual touch. Within the royal forest, deer stroll between the trees and vultures circle in the sky above the pine-covered heights. The Canal du Midi and the town of Carcassonne are listed as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. The Cathar region has more than one string to its bow. With its Mediterranean coast, the long, sandy beaches of the South of France promise you some wonderfully relaxing times.
With more than 4,000 km of paths, you can explore all its locations by foot, on horseback or by bike, so that your camping holiday in Aude will be a really peaceful one. You'll be able to make the most of the fine weather to visit all sorts of fortified towns and castles. This was once a land of heresy, and is now filled with history, holding on to a profound sense of its own identity.
The Cathar region has some speciality dishes you really shouldn't miss, including the famous Cassoulet de Carcassonne and pork fricassée. And for wine lovers, you should try the Blanquette de Limoux, which is the oldest sparkling wine known to man.
Come and stroll around the vineyards, take a barge along the canals or relax on the lovely beaches during your campsite holiday in Aude.
