Hérault is a place with its own strong identity due to its dense and varied cultural and historical heritage. Go for a walk in the authentic villages such as Saint Guilhem, Olargues and Minerve, where you can admire the Languedoc architecture in the little paved alleyways. And the inland area is full of surprises. With some major vineyards, come and spend an afternoon at an estate tasting some of the fruit-laden and rounded wines of the department.
It also has some wonderful countryside, and with gorges and valleys, the Causses Cévenoles are well worth a detour for coming to see an authentic and preserved environment. For sports enthusiasts, you can go down the gorges of the Hérault by canoe or by kayak, during which you'll see some natural and historic marvels. You shouldn't miss the building feat of the Pont du Diable either, with its terrifying legend.
There are also all sorts of other amazing locations, including Cirque de Navacelles, Pic Saint Loup and the Lac du Salagou, whose originality and character are sure to take you by surprise. Relaxation is also on the menu during your camping holiday in Hérault. Its wide sandy beaches are perfect for a wonderful afternoon of sunbathing and swimming.
With the famous Canal du Midi crossing through it, Hérault is a great place to explore on foot, by bike or, better still, by barge, where the fragrances of Hérault will hang heavy.
