Aigues-Mortes is a multi-facetted town. Most obviously it is a place steeped in history, one in which the crusaders still feature strongly, and visitors will be reminded of this by its architectural heritage. It's also a great place to live, and choosing a camping holiday in Aigues-Mortes means taking the time to enjoy looking at the pink flamingos taking flight, the white horses of the Camargue and the black bulls of the herdsmen, in a landscape within which earth and sea appear to merge. Above all, Aigues-Mortes is a living town, where you'll always be able to find the time to sit back on one of its terraces, in the shade of an arbour, and enjoy some typical Provençal dishes.
You could enjoy a trip to the beach, stopping off at one of the various salt marshes in the area surrounding Aigues-Mortes, where the pink-tinged lakes give rise to mountains of perfectly white salt after the alchemy of the Camargue sunshine has worked its magic. Young and old alike will love finding out about the way the salt is harvested here.
During your camping holiday in Aigues-Mortes, you'll be able to come and explore the Camargue, this land of conflicts and contrasts. Here, the way the sea and the earth merge creates a wild countryside, bathed by the warm sunshine. The reeds waving in the wind, the fine, sandy beaches and the clean lines of the varied landscapes make for wonderful locations for walking.
During your camping holiday in Aigues-Mortes, perhaps you'll see a ferrade (livestock branding event), a manade (herd of semi-feral cattle or horses) or a course camarguaise, a traditional version of bullfighting which is always a spectacular event.
