Have you ever visited Forcalquier?
Lying between the Lure Mountain and the Luberon, the mediaeval town of Forcalquier is a French municipality in the western area of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. Not far from the town you can also explore the remains of the Via Domita, or Domitian Way, but within the town itself you’ll immediately fall under the charm of its beauty and the warm welcome offered by its population.
Between the Alps, the sea, the Rhône, the plain and the mountain, Forcalquier enjoys a Mediterranean climate with warm dry summers. And you’re certain to appreciate the diversity of landscapes that surround it, plus its wealth of vegetation where the scents of lavender and aromatic plants blend perfectly with the pure clean air.
Wander the narrow streets, take a break in the small shady squares with their refreshing fountains and admire the attractive town houses dating from the 12th to 15th centuries. From the town’s citadel, pause for a moment to admire the superb panorama over the tiled roofs and gorgeous scenery!
Did you know?
Les Mourres, which means “heads”, are fascinating limestone formations that have slowly been sculpted by natural erosion over some 25 million years!
